I constantly get the itch to redecorate. Unfortunately, my wallet tends to have other plans. That means that I am constantly looking for ways to upgrade my décor on the cheap… err… I mean “economical” side.
The easiest and cheapest way I have found to make your house look updated and current is to watch the “color trends”. Now is the perfect time to scope out the color trends because we are still in the beginning of a new year.
If you think about it, when you walk into a home, you can easily tell when the last time they’ve decorated was based on the color scheme alone. When my parents were ripping through a kitchen remodel and tore up the flooring, I could tell it was easily from the 70s because of the lovely shade of avocado it was.
Now, I’m not saying that you have to change your colors every year. You can absolutely bet that I don’t. However, when I’m looking for a refresh (like when the first breaths of spring appear) I can easily turn to the set “color trends” of the year and give my house a quick upgrade.
A few easy things you can change- throw pillows and blankets, curtains, kitchen towels, candles, lamp shades… anything you can easily accessorize is a safe bet. Sometimes all it takes is giving something a good clean to bring it back to life – for example, curtains.
For 2016, according to Benjamin Moore, white is going to be the big trend. Lots of layers of white. Their reasoning? White brings out more light making any room feel bigger and more open. You can’t deny that!
To go along with your lovely white, they say adding sharp, bold pops of color adds some dimension and texture to your décor. Do you have a white room? Throw some fun yellow pillows into the mix and you can call yourself an up-to-date décor specialist. (I would if I was you!)
If you are a Pinterest user (and you should be!) take a look at their 2016 color trends and gather some more inspiration. Who knows, maybe next year we’ll be asking for your ideas on color trends.
