The New Year is off to a bold start as the Pantone Color Institute announces the 2012 color of the year to be Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange. Tangerine Tango blends the vivaciousness of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow to form a color that is sophisticated, dramatic, and seductive all at once. What is great about this particular shade it that it energizes interiors, whether modern, vintage-inspired, or traditional. Just try adding a splash of paint to your dreary window shutters, and watch the super shutters and blinds make your house stand out on the block once again. Try painting an accent wall or just pop in a few orange pillows or placemats. And if you really want a quick fix, fill your favorite bowl with real tangerines.

This year neutrals will be saturated and rich as they continue to be influenced by raw materials. Picture petrified wood, earthen clay, and fields of grain. Warm gold tones soften metallics and textural elements such as linen, mixed woods, and weathered metals provide subtle tonal variations.
Red is being seen everywhere in a saturated palette that includes hues of brilliant flowers and glowing embers. It isn’t a single red, but a deep gradation of fuchsias, red-oranges, violets and delicate pinks.
Blues seen this year will be the colors of denim and water. Shades are ranging from the darkest indigo to faded-jeans hues, some with violet undertones, as well as the calm, shimmery shades that reflect rivers, lakes and seas.
The greens of 2012 are expected to be lush, moody, and complex. They are greens seen in the depths of the sea and forest; leafy motifs; rustic natural textures; and organic elements such as algae, moss and seaweed.
Yellows this year will be sunny and bright. A little goes a long way with this color so uses this splash of citrus sparingly!
