Not satisfied with your current space but don’t want to do a complete remodel? You may be surprised to find that a few small changes can have a big impact on the overall aesthetic of your home. A professional interior designer is a great resource when identifying where to spend and where to save. With a professional’s expertise, you can be sure that you will make choices that give you the greatest design impact within your budget. Below I’ve listed a few of my favorite tips.
1. Replace your Countertop, Door Hardware, or Plumbing Fixtures
Replacing one or all of these items will bring new life to your existing kitchen and bathroom cabinetry. Depending on the style and finish of the products, the look can feel modern, traditional, or anywhere in-between.
2. Mix High with Low
Just like pairing a Target sweater with a pair of designer shoes, mixing high and low is a great way to stretch your decorating dollars. For example, mix an eye-catching glass tile mosaic with a less expensive or existing finish. These Mirage Blend mosaic tiles, installed next to a standard gloss porcelain tile, take this design from basic to stunning.
3. Play with Color
Accessories and paint are a great way to try out this season’s “it” color without a lot of commitment or expense. Add zing to a neutral palette with a colourful mirror or add drama to a space using a dark hue on the walls. Check out how red is used in two very different ways!
4. “Shop” Your Home
This one won’t cost you a single cent. Rearrange your furniture, rotate the artwork throughout your house, go through a closet of forgotten items, and my favorite, swap with friends! Your friends and family grow tired of their own items just as you do. Try hosting a swap party and see what they might want to trade!
